I would note that there's work in progress to implement GLSL in Mesa
using LLVM:

Also, Apple's OpenGL uses LLVM, though it only uses it for software
fallback.
So it seems there's going to be a lot of focus going forward on making
LLVM optimal for doing high performance 3D math. :)
