I'm sorry Seg, but your argument sounds a lot like, "You can't live
forever, so why not die tomorrow?"

I can tell you from the experience of having one of my products in SL
duplicated, improved upon, and sold for a lower price than mine.
Another person duplicated, added many new features, and sells for
twice as much as mine.  In both cases, they purchased mine, but
granted, they didn't directly rip my scripts.  Just nearly duplicated
functionality.

It didn't really hurt.  My sales are still improving actually!

Granted, they're not handing out full permissions copies.  I'm not
convinced that would change anything, all things considered.
