[sldev] sljirastats.com Linden Metrics Report & Public Perception

I've been mulling over chiming in on this topic for a couple of days now.
Just my personal POV, but I don't really care about the ratios of other
companies bugs, SL is the only one that matters. I can also understand and
sympathize with the problems of solving poorly documented intermittent bugs
with no clear
replication. It might not be a bad idea to go with some kind of flag
system to differintiate between Bob/Susie Homemaker's bugs stating "It
doesn't work when I push the button" from vetted contributors who give
clear repro and or patches.

But this does beg the million dollar question; Why exactly is it that some
bugs/patches from people like Strife have been ignored when not only the
problem is pointed out but the solution is handed over on a silver platter?
(I am aware that many of Strife's have been accepted) Why is it that LL is
now faced with the PR nightmare of Nicholas's Blog? His fixes/viewers were
used by a multitude of people because THEY WERE MORE STABLE and fixed some
really annoying problems. His fixes were clearly popular but more
importantly all of the work was already done. Fixes that had already been
alpha and beta checked and went into production with no problems.

It all just adds to the other old PR problems: "LL only works on what they
want" and the one I hate the worst: "Stop new features and fix bugs".
(Clarification: I personally
do not support this view and know
we need to move forward). But please always keep in mind and understand
that there is some justification behind those two rants.

We have problems like the forums still not fixed after all of this time and
now with no moderation even thou a list from Strife was submitted of names
of qualified volunteers. Come on guys/gals. Realistically, what are we
looking at? 20 man hours to fix that one? Seems ludicrous that none at LL
understands that this
is and will always be the best and irreplaceable definitive source for
content creation information.
And
as pointed out in another thread, valid and important points were
completely ignored from the community concerning dazzle.

The sky isn't falling and anyone that says SL will loose people is
delusional, clearly, many more come in then are lost. Also I acknowledge
that before JIRA, everyone of my bugs that I had clear repro on in
Siva/Aditi were fixed. Have said it before and will say it again that the QA
team rocks!!! Post JIRA, my measely 2 JIRA entries with clear repro were
both fixed. But can we at least get past the hurt feelings and acknowledge
that maybe rethinking does need to be done in how some problems are handled?

Just my early morning/overly caffienated POV,
Jesse Barnett
