At the moment, in SL, it *is* private information. That it isn't private
elsewhere (WWW) is not a reasonable argument for making it not so in SL.

I'd also argue that even on the web, my IP address is as private as I choose
to make it. As a technically capable person who is aware of the issue I can
decide how much I wish to expose it. For any activity I wish to engage in I
must decide if the activity is worth the risk, and the risk I judge by the
trustworthiness of the offering party.

If you propose increasing the risk of an activity I'm already engaged in
(SL) then I must make that decision for something I'm already invested in.
This is why you'll get complaints, where you'd expect lesser concern over
creating *new* offerings.
