I really don't think you're giving LSL enough credit, and I don't  
think that the endgame is all that close.

Yes, LSL is a funky language, but it's going to be what most in-world  
users are going to be using pretty much indefinitely, and most MFTLs  
(My Favorite Toy Languages) that are credible alternatives for the in- 
world scripting environment are not really any better. I suspect a  
first generation Palm Pilot had more available CPU and storage. A  
Forth or a Lisp, I could see. Javascript or Lua would be pushing it.
