[sldev] CMake status update

It's been a slightly slow couple of weeks, as I got knocked out for an
entire week by the flu.

Soft is in the process of updating the public SVN tree to match our
current internal code.  Here's what you can expect.

We're now synced with the internal release branch as of Feb 4, which
includes all of the good stuff in the 1.19 branch.

Thanks to some nice patches from Robin, we should now be better
standalone build citizens.  If you're a distro packager, you'll be
interested in the new "make install" target.

I'm particularly interested in feedback and input from Windows and Mac
developers.  Please give things a try.
