Actually, this may also be another reason you got the sharp end of some criticism - the new login screen is something of a sore point.

True, Tess, Donovan et al did explain what they were planning - however, a lot of us have genuine concerns that the particular approach taken is not the right one (and the incident over Christmas hasn't allayed these concerns).

Now although the feedback wasn't perhaps what LL wanted to hear (i.e we didn't like it), I think that we were constructive about it (then I would since I helped with the wiki response). There was a genuine urge from this community to work with LL to understand what LL was trying to achieve and to think about, propose, and discuss alternatives, and we put in quite a lot of effort thinking about these issues. However, the feeling on this side (and I think I can speak for others) is that we might as well not have bothered, as LL just ignored all our comments, concerns, suggestions etc and press on ahead anyway.

This is past history - personally I think LL is going in the wrong direction re the logon screen, I've said as much to Tess in some private e-mail discussions but I'm happy to sit back and either eat my words or gloat later down the line...

However, why I raise this now, is I tentative about a repeat performance over the group im chat changes in 1.19. There are some real concerns being raised about this. Now, I'd be happier if this resulted in a proper conversation between the OS developers and LL developers - I think we can all understand what LL is trying to address here, but it maybe that what is in 1.19 isn't quite the right solution, or the way it is implemented is only half there. If that is the case, I would hope that LL would be willing to consider pulling the new group im chat changes from 1.19, work with us here to fix some of the issues, and roll out a more polished solution in 1.20. I'd also like to hope that LL would be willing to pull changes from a RC if it appeared that they weren't working and were extremely unpopular.

What worries me is that LL will just go "yep, those are valid issues and those are good suggestions etc., but we've fixed 1.19 now, so tough, we'll roll it out anyway, and maybe try to address these at some indeterminate point in the future..."
