Jordi,

I think I hear you volunteering to do some benchmarks :P

The way I understand it 1.3 is mainly improved for GIS uses, with a few
speedups that would affect SL too.

If you could run some side-by-side tests with the type of decoding the
SL client does, that would be very cool.
