Oh i forgot i was going to say, likely that it was in fact heap
corruption causing unreproducible results. It was a while ago now i
think since the tcmalloc stuff was removed and "back in the day" there
were quite a few leaks and crashes that have since been plugged.

Oh That should be nano seconds as well, my bad. Makes the spped
advantage less significant by 3 orders of magnitude.
