Has anyone thought of this... well I'm sure many have before! Teaching
in SL is already a big thing, and it could be much much bigger if we had
better tools to simulate a real classroom situation. Better control of
an avatar's hand would be a hinge for a ton of enhancements.

I've taken some language courses in SL and it always was glaringly
obvious that we missed a pointing device. A laser pointer or just a
stick. It should be possible to translate the mouse position over a
certain prim (the white/black board) into the target of a "look at"
function to rotate the avatar's hand (or what it's holding) accordingly.

More sophisticated, I'd like to use one of those graphics pads, capture
what I'm drawing into a video stream (Gimp + CamStudio ?) and let that
appear on the said white board, and together with the positional
information from the same graphics pad (it's functionally the same as a
mouse) simulate my avatar drawing it live there before everyone's eyes.

Is that code going in a direction to enable such a thing?

Felix

PS: Actually, to me this sounds like a worthy project for a dedicated
group even more than - forgive me - the NAV project. Immersion and
realism would get a quantum leap forward and there is business in this.
