Ok, my apologies. It seems we agree in principle then. I was speaking to
the overall behavior of inventory fetching, not to the specific behavior
of the landmarks dropdown in the map. I agree that the current
implementation is not terribly usable, and your suggestion sounds
reasonable to me, personally.
Off the wall idea here...how about a hybrid inventory view/dropdown? What
you see at first is a text entry box with an arrow next to it. But what
you type in the text field doesn't just perform a match against the first
characters of each entry, like a typical combo box, but instead performs a
filter operation against all landmarks in your inventory. And instead of
popping up a flat list of landmarks, we pop up a filtered inventory view?
This would provide a better search mechanism using the existing inventory
behavior, and allow you to scan by folder, etc. Under the hood, we could
let you change the filter rules for that dropdown to only scan a certain
folder, and so on.
