[sldev] Using OS X Image I/O for jpeg200 handling?

Hi all,

just wondered if it would be worth the time to investigate Apples Image 
I/O Framework for jpeg2000 handling for the open source viewer on OS X. 
Its basically the kakadu lib shipped with Apples OS, so should be better 
than libjpeg. (at least according to a comment in 
http://www.wilshipley.com/blog/2005/09/jpeg2000-cool-but-slow.html )

Has there been any work in that direction?
