I can't speak for Rob, but I can tell you what it was for, spamming.
That you felt the need to send this email about what is essentially a
private matter to 600+ people kinda makes my point.

Covering your wiki page in spam keywords sure doesn't help your case
that you aren't a spammer, looking to abuse linden resources for your
own ends, in any way possible.

SVC-1581 was closed "won't fix" by the reporter originally. If a
reporter withdraws an issue it's generally left dead, as a matter of
procedure.
It's important to note we were just discussing today (at the open source
meeting) the ability for creators to give more detailed licenses rather
than the basic permissions we have today. The discussion on licenses
and IP isn't ending just because that particular issue and approach was
a non-starter.

It doesn't matter who proposes it, if it's a flawed technical solution
to a legal and social problem that will do nothing but hinder legitimate
use, many people will oppose it.
