But there were new GeForce 7 cards released right up to the  
introduction of the GeForce 8, and the GF8 wasn't ready for prime  
time in SL for quite a while after introduction, because of teething  
troubles with its new "general purpose" architecture. Even a year ago  
the 79xx were still arguably the best option for SL, and those  
weren't cheap cards.

And what about ATI?

So you're saying it's only a matter of new features, and you will  
continue to support the current shaders?
