Wouldn't adding a "Landmarks" tab to the inventory floater (rooted at the
Landmarks folder) make more sense than the proposed Landmarks menu?
Something along the lines of

Looking at my own browser usage, even though the Favorites are right there
as a menu, I still use the Favorites sidebar in IE 7 more frequently because
it's easier to navigate and the selection/expansion of folders persists
across uses.

Having a new inventory tab would also mean that landmarks are very easy to
sort, drag/drop and rename is already part of the inventory floater's
feature set, as well as searching them.

(We can detach menus, but since they're not collapsible it would take up
quite a bit of space on the screen and you'd still have to go into inventory
to sort anything)

That would just leave "Recent Places" as a new menu option (the rest
currently exists under World) which could just go under World as well (the
functionality would be accessible through the "HUD" as well it seems),
avoiding the need to create a new top level menu.
