 From what Ted Maa has said to me, it appears that one LL long-term goal 
is to get scripting in SL   compatible with new OSS features and 
capabilities, so you can get some idea of one direction SL scripting 
will go in by looking at where OpenSim Scripting is heading. Of course, 
the opposite is also true: new LL innovations will obviously copied by 
OpenSim as well:
