[sldev] back to the lab again?

Full rewrite is an arrogant stance that assumes that the space is now
clearly understood and specified (all requirements captured, all use cases
visited etc...) and now we can build, it is as extreme a view as building on
top of known flawed subsystems causing the whole platform to be unscaleable,
resistant to evolution and so on. Experienced developers are well aware of
this issue. They can only play a balancing act. It's an art.
