[sldev] Intend to commit VWR-14914

After testing/using this patch for a few days, and with a review by
Kelly (feedback via IRC),
I feel confident that the patch does exactly what it is intended to do
without any drawback.

Also thanks to Techwolf for testing and reporting that the patch fixes
all cases of
high Audio Update times that he ran into.

Hence, pending any serious objections, I'll commit
