Wow, this thread has really kind of gone out there with what appear to be
rumors not based in fact.

a) I'm not in billing, but I know from talking with billing people that we
give customers all sorts of chances to make good on financial obligations.

b) I went and asked some senior grid people about performance. One of our
data specialists did some extra data analysis across the grid in response to
my query. There is, as one would expect, a weak correlation between number
of avatars and time dilation. But it's actually rather weak. We have many
examples of 80-100 avatars in a region with > .9 time dilation. There are
also some regions with .2 time dilation and just a few avatars.

We have people who do statistical analysis. We have people working on
automated simulator performance analysis. Grid performance is pretty
critical, as you might imagine, so we do watch it. We are busy working on
tools that will allow people to get a clearer view of what's causing
performance issues, and we'll be sharing them with residents.

Meanwhile, can we get back to talking about open source development, please?
