Very amusing and mostly correct summary of the situation (and about 6 months
of office hour logs), thanks Imaze.

This is partially because Philip and Andrew's initial vision for SL was as
an autonomous world that people would occasionally visit.

Virtual creatures would run around eating and breeding and these ecosystems
should run whether or not people were there to watch.

Interestingly with over 1000 running scripts for every logged in avatar,
that is still largely the case: you can look at Second Life as a world of
scripts that humans occasionally visit.
