It would seem to be a bug in the drivers triggered by something odd
that SL is doing.
For the record, here's a list of apps which run fine:
epsxe (a playstation emulator)
pcsx (ditto, but uses same plugin - pete's OpenGL - as epsxe)
pcsx2 (ps2 emulator)
Doom 3
Doom legacy
mplayer OpenGL output (i tested with this specifically)
the redbook samples and a few of the nehe tutorials
Super secret project #2546 (my own code, all I can reveal is it uses
Panda3D and runs inside a firefox plugin)
IMVU under wine
Doom 3: RoE under wine

All these apps run fine, so obviously SL is doing something weird. It
is of course not a bug as such in SL most likely, but quite likely a
bug in the drivers triggered by that weird thing.
