I think this problem originates from "trying to" download too much
at the same time. An explanation could be the following:
For many things UDP messages are used. If your bandwidth is set
higher than what is really available between the SL server and
your viewer (which might be very low for various reasons not
related to your own cable connection) it is possible that the
network connection fails and packets are being lost (more packets
are being sent than you the network can handle).
The result might be semi corrupted cache and especially a half
empty inventory. Normally, however, your inventory is still there
on the servers, of course. If you clear you cache and reconnect
it often gets everything back the second attempt. Otherwise you
might need to set your bandwidth lower (try 300). Once you have
logged in once it should be easier to log in again because then
less has to be sent to the viewer. You can increase your bandwidth
again in most cases without problems.
More importantly, I don't think this is specific to a viewer
version. You should get the same experience with any viewer,
using the same settings.
