[sldev] Backported SVC-4444 patch to Snowglobe 1.0, please test

Hi folks,

As many of you know, we're in the process of working on a fix for
SVC-4444.  Earlier today, we checked Tofu's fix into Snowglobe trunk,
and now we've backported it to the Snowglobe 1.0 branch:

Please give this build a whirl, regardless of your interest in SVC-4444.
This build almost identical to Snowglobe 1.0, save for the SVC-4444 fix
and a version number bump.

If this build works for everyone, we'll probably replace the current
Snowglobe 1.0 download with this one.
