[sldev] Is 1.21+ version required because of difference in login procedure?

I've asked this on IRC since yesterday, but I haven't got any response 
as of yet (over other active discussions).

Besides obvious upgrade and cut-off reasons, will the May 21st 
requirement to upgrade include a procedural difference in login 
requirements? I ask because I don't know where to look to find out if 
the basic login procedure that exists now in the 1.22 viewer will 
continue to work or will weblogin-key and all the related newer changes 
be the only option after May 21st? I do not know if the talk months ago 
about procedural changes in the login process is completely rolled out 
or if there is still something left in a #ifdef somewhere that still 
matters for days like May 21st.
