This mechanism will work fine as long as it is used corectly.

The problem is that, although translators know very much on polysemy
of a particular word, UI designers don't in general, but the one who
decides the gettext key for a word/sentence is a UI designer (or a
programmer).  A typical UI designer can't make a reasonable decision
when a particular gettext key should be context-prefixed and when it
shouldn't.

If we are to use a mechanism similar to gettext, well, I hope it
provided some context based switching of translated texts for a same
key...  Unfortunately I have no proposal that enable us to do so at
this moment.

Or, we could rely on the "thousands of eyes" with different language
backgrounds to distinguish same English words used as different
meanings and to assign separate gettext keys properly...
