All,
The energy and output of the AWG has been a delightful surprise to us
here at Linden Lab, and we're trying to match it in several ways. Zero
mentioned in his office hours recently that we're focusing on providing
better guidance and clearer scope. As part of that effort, we've been
editing the wiki to make more apparent what documents and task areas
need attention, the kind of attention they need, and which topics are
within the scope of the AWG. A new AWG homepage
<https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Architecture_Working_Group> is now
posted. You may also have noticed several other recent edits in the AWG
space.
I've drafted some best practices for using the AWG areas of the wiki:
* Documents should begin as working drafts in your wiki user space.
* Documents should be vetted by the community for technical quality and
clarity. After vetting by the community, they can be moved into the main
document categories below.
* Collaboration is as valuable and appreciated as authorship.
* Linden Lab reserves the right to edit this wiki as needed.
Using the above guidelines, I've been moving many of the existing pages
into user space or into what we're calling The Incubator
<https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/The_Incubator>. I'm still working to
make sure that all docs linked off the old home page are accounted for
in either user space or in one of the other resource areas such as the
VAG or AWGroupies.
Regarding the use of categories:
We'd like to narrow the scope of how "Category:Architecture Working
Group" is used. Please refrain from tagging pages with this category
unless they are directly related to and within the scope of the Linden
Lab-coordinated AWG effort. For example, the interesting discussion
about Hyperplanes was moved to the Incubator and is no longer marked
with "Category:Architecture Working Group." Also, proposals in user
space should not be marked with this category.
If there are pages listed at Category:Architecture Working Group
<https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Category:Architecture_Working_Group>
that belong to you, please review them for relevance. If they are
outside the scope of AWG and/or are proposals that have not been vetted
and accepted by the community and Linden, then please move them to your
user space, the Incubator, the VAG page or AWGroupies.
If you have questions or concerns about these edits, let me know.
Thanks,
Liana
