There's an issue there though. LL has expressed a desire to make sure
that the "community" knows what is "official" LInden Labs and what
isn't. That's a PR issue since they can TELL people formally whatever
they like. Likewise, putting all non-LL efforts in a "sandbox" may sound
OK to insiders of SL, but will hardly sound impressive to the larger
community. "AW Groupies" is obviously a play on words concerning the
Architectural Working Group and is a name that is implicitly accepted by
anyone who has joined that discussion group. "Sandbox" is being imposed
by someone else, and in fact, even in Second Life, "sandbox" refers to a
"safe play area."
Would YOU want to point your colleagues and management to a website that
implied that your professional work belonged in a "safe play area?"
Do you think that they would take your work seriously, worthy of
increased funding and support from your company?
Linden Labs is the entity that has evoked PR concerns as a reason for
the name change. PR concerns all parties, not just LL.
