ahhh... yes. that's entirely hysteria. the JIRA task cited by the
release notes was mis-named - the issue has nothing to do with alpha
channels. (the bug is actually that some degenerate surfaces slipped
through our filter. and the fix is waiting to merge into release.)
and yes - if/when we do start using the sculpt's alpha channel -
we'll accompany the feature with a user toggle - so as not to break
existing content.
