Hi,

Thanks for all the comments and welcoming messages and apologies for my 
belated reply.

Some comments raised an interesting issue which is the distinction 
between "3D Internet" and "3D Web". This is something I won't go into 
here because it may be off topic, but I have written about it in my blog 
(http://www.tola.me.uk/blog/2008/04/21/3d_internet_vs_3d_web).

Vivaty (previously MediaMachines) seem to think that X3D is up to the 
job of virtual worlds, but when their new service enters public beta, we 
will begin to see how the technology scales.

Croquet is extremely interesting academically, but I've tried to get 
into it before and been put off by the squeaking sound. Perhaps I'm just 
narrow minded trying to stick with the familiar feel of HTTP and XML 
over at the Web3D consortium, but it worked for the web we have today 
and I see a lot of evidence that it could work for the 3D web of the 
future. I try to remain open minded.
