Actually it isn't all that long ago that about half of internet domain
names were that way around (while the other half were the other way).
For resolution purposes it makes start with the TLD first, since that's
the order you actually _operate_ on domain names. However, human usage
won, and humans prefer to work the other way around, since they would be
typing and reading them all the time.
