If a particular release degrades performance on your configuration, that
is a bug, and should be reported with CPU/GPU/ram configuration info.
Such bugs will be prioritized according to the severity of the
degradation and what proportion of the resident community they affect
just like all other bugs.

It was a goal of the WindLight project to have no graphics chipset with
a significant sample size in our databse average below 12fps on the
recommended settings. We collected a lot of data on this during the
firstlooks and release candidates for 1.19.1, I'll see if we can dig
some of it up and publish it.

We clearly want our target audience to be as large as possible. To do
otherwise would be business suicide for us. Second Life should run
reasonably on as many machines as possible. I'm particularly interested
in under what configuration Tateru had problems. Is there an existing
jira for this? Scott Squires' situation earlier in the thread is
similarly interesting.

I'd also like to respond to the following point made earlier in the thread:

Matthew Dowd wrote:

Eric has responded to many of the rest of the issues in that post, but
I'd like to add the following: There is no implication that you need to
buy a new machine. GeForce 8[1] and Radeon R600[2] series cards are
availible for less than $50. (I believe that the R600 series is the
equivalent ATI product line as it claims shader model 4 support, but one
of the other graphics devs should probably confirm that.) If you're
running on a laptop or otherwise can't upgrade the graphics card, you
should never expect to have the latest and greatest graphical features.
