You could always just bulk render sims more than 2 sims away from you
and only update them every minute or so.
Some time ago I suggested this as a world-map-style optimization for
SL in general. You'd render each sim (say) 4 times, and use these pre-
rendered sim images as a half-kilometer-wide "Skybox", so with a draw
distance of 256 or more you'd see "all of SL" in these static images
updated every few hours at the most.
