[sldev] Snowglobe on OpenSim grids

Hello,

Snowglobe looks like a very nice viewer to me. Though there is some work left,
it compiles and runs almost flawlessy on my x86_64 Linux system(in contrast to
the latest, "official", Second Life viewer).
But there is one main problem: I really like to play with OpenSim.
Unfortunately, the new HTTP map texture fetching does not work with OpenSim
based regions/grids. OpenSim does not support that feature. And since the URL
to the world textures is hardcoded, Snowglobe will always load the ones from
Linden Lab's grid.

So I would like to have 2 things:
- A way of disabling HTTP map textures completely, so the viewer returns to
it's old behaviour.
- The possibility to change the HTTP map texture URL somehow

I know, I could just use the latest official Second Life viewer, or one of that
various third party ones. But they depend on deprecated viewer releases, apply
too many patches or just don't work. Additionally, Snowglobe provides some
very nice features, especially it uses Webkit instead of Gecko, which solves
many many issues.

So, is the old way of fetching the map textures still present in Snowglobe? I
looked a bit at the sourcecode, and it seems like many things got replaced. I
guess it wouldn't be that easy to implement an "Use the old way of map texture
fetching" feature in this case...

Thanks,
Lisa Denia
