And just to add my two cents regarding "login screens."
For anyone that's used some of the major games, you'll notice that
some you start it up, give a menu, you click New or Load, and there
you go.
And other games, mostly MMOs, you start the "launcher" and log in, it
verifies or downloads a bunch of stuff, maybe restarts a time or two,
finally starts the game, lets you log in through THAT interface, takes
you to a character select screen, then finally begins loading the
actual part where you can PLAY the game.
One of the reasons I don't play MMOs is that it is an ORDEAL to start
most of them up.
I like how SL's set up. It's very quick and easy. Updates are
"manual," but extremely fast. And it drops you right into the action.
Even though it's not a "game," it's got enough similarities in design
that it can steal good ideas.
Though now that I think about it a "character select" screen might be
pretty cool for those with alts. I wonder how it would choose what
animation(s) to play without the AO script, though.
