[sldev] Rendering Limits

This may not really be the right place but I sent a ping to Soft earlier
today and now wanted to share a couple of opposing thoughts with everyone.
Everyone knows I am an outspoken critic of some policies of LL(especially
concerning the forums). I even made a couple of snarky remarks about this
release until I started thinking about it some. But credit also needs to be
given where credit is due.......................

It has been a long time since I was actively involved with the dev
community. I still build a viewer every now and then but have never
submitted a patch. I am by no means an expert with C++ BUT I was there at
the beginning when Rob joined and sldev was formed. I looked at the code
then and have seen it now and even with an untrained eye, the viewer code is
immensely improved over what it was and it will continue to improve.

Even though I can not see the server code, the improvement on that side is
also readily apparent to everyone. Not every release is perfect and
sometimes content does get broken but we are still light years beyond the
point where we were at just two years ago. Seems to be some outrage with
this release but this is nothing compared to the past. Gone are the days of
the Wednesday updates where a couple of times NO ONE could log in world for
days afterwards. Hmmmmm, how long has it been since 5K online was really
pushing the boundaries? There used to be major breakage with every jump of
5K concurrency and now that is a thing of the past.

If you have content broken then it is always bad but please put it into
context. The immediate problems will be solved and they will be solved
without having to kick everyone off for a couple of days (or longer).

Virtual cookies to all the devs, those with a Linden last name and those
without. Hope everyone can forgive this intrusion and hopefully we can put
this thread behind us.
